Checker Cab was founded in 1947 at 717 Commerce Street Nashville, TN by Richard P. Lechleiter, with the most modest beginnings of 3 cabs. Over the next 50 years under the leadership of prominent business owners the company has grown to the state of the art in vehicle transportation company transporting over 3000 passengers per day throughout Nashville. Along the way Checker Cab made of point of being first.
Checker Cab was the first in Nashville to utilize two-way communication and working to implement computer dispatch and natural gas powered cabs in the interest of the environment and first in providing the newest and best maintained vehicles with a fleet featuring cabs considered top of the line in comfort and reliability, beyond passenger transport, Checker Cab services, also includes package delivery, corporate accounts, and the convenience of accepting major credit cards.
Consistent with it’s commitment of service to the public road service and assistance from stranded motorist, is also provided. As a member of the Nashville Chamber of Commerce and International Taxi Association for the past thirty years the company has been recognized as the best cab company in Nashville by The Tennessean and the Nashvillian Magazine.
